Student Outcome I

(I) An ability to use current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for computing practices;

Level 5
The student:
  1. successfully completes assigned tasks using current techniques, skills, and tools.
  2. learns a tool well enough to take advantage of features that allow for an efficient and complete solution.
  3. identifies and uses the appropriate tool or technique to complete a given task.
  4. demonstrates mastery of skills such as debugging or searching the Java API.

Level 3
The student:
  1. is generally successful in using current techniques, skills, and tools to complete an assigned task but tends to make some errors or leave some parts incomplete.
  2. uses a tool successfully but limits themselves to a subset of the tool’s full functionality.
  3. identifies a tools or technique that leads to the successful completion of a task but frequently selects a tool or technique that is less than optimal.
  4. demonstrates basic competence in skills such as debugging or searching the Java API.

Level 1
The student:
  1. can start but not successfully complete assigned tasks using current techniques, skills, and tools.
  2. is unable to use a given tool successfully. Does not understand the primary purpose or advantage of a tool. Does not understand the metaphors used by a tool. Frequently uses a substitute tool although not directed to do so.
  3. has difficulty identifying an appropriate tool or technique to complete a given task.
  4. struggles with needed skills such as debugging or searching the Java API.
