Two Radford University students presented papers Feb 28 at the Virginia Regional Phi Alpha Theta conference held at Bridgewater College. Phi Alpha Theta is the international History honor society. Summer Hall’s paper was entitled “A Collective Biography of the Women of the WAAC/WAC: The Positive and Empowering Experiences of Servicewomen in World War II.” Paul Graham’s paper was entitled “Operation MARKET-GARDEN: A Fateful Autumn Overlooked in the Course of a Pivotal Failure.”
The papers were submitted in January and judged in the conference paper competition. Both papers were winners. Summer Hall, a senior from Cana, Va., won first place in the American undergraduate division. Paul Graham, a junior from Woodbridge, Virginia, won second place in the Europe and World division. Both students are history majors and members of the Honors Academy. The papers were written under the direction of Dr. Matthew Oyos in the department of History.
