PROPOSED ADMISSIONS POLICY

ATHLETIC TRAINING EDUCATION PROGRAM

 

In order to apply for admission into the Athletic Training Education Program, a student must:

 

  1. Be currently enrolled at Radford University as a full-time undergraduate student, regular status
  2. Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better, over a minimum of 28 credit hours
  3. Obtain a physical from a licensed physician indicating the applicant’s physical ability to participate in athletic training activities
  4. Submit evidence that they have obtained the first two shots of the Hepatitis B vaccination sequence or sign a waiver form, which is available from the ATEP program director
  5. Complete the following courses with a “C” or better:

 

ESHE 201-      Introduction to Athletic Training

ESHE 205-      Introduction to Athletic Training Skills

ESHE 225-      Field Experience I- Observation

HLTH 321-      First Aid and Safety

BIOL 310-       Human Structure and Function I

 

  1. Complete the file requirements:

 

1.      Letter of application

2.      Answer to professional questions

3.      Resume

4.      Three letters of reference (letter form given)

 

Selection for admission into the program is competitive based on grade point average, experience in the profession, grade point average in the professional course work, and various criteria.  MEETING THE SELECTION CRITERIA DOES NOT GUARANTEE A PERSON A PLACE IN THE ATHLETIC TRAINING EDUCATION PROGRAM.  A review form is used to review each applicant, and applicants will be given a copy of the form used prior to the deadline for applications.  The review committee is made up of the Clinical Instructors associated with the program.  A maximum of 16 students per semester are accepted, and all students must have a minimum of 70% of the total score on the evaluation instrument.  A student offered a position in the program must formally accept their position in the program.
