Little League
Welcome and Introduction
Our league was started in the spring of 2003 to promote youth sports for children in and around the Blacksburg and New River Valley areas. Our goals are to promote a safe, fun, educational and team oriented approach to the game of baseball. We do promote Christian values as they are in line with good sportsmanship and good will for each and every child.
As our visions grew, we hoped to continue the growth of our league for the future. During the 2004 spring season, the league grew to over 250 players. In 2005, we had close to 400 players involved with the league, playing baseball and softball. We also offered a fall baseball and softball league during the 2005 season.
Because of the tremendous response, the league's board has decided to apply for a Little League Baseball Franchise/Charter for the Blacksburg area. The league, it's players, coaches, and parents will be affiliated with America's largest and most respected youth baseball organization, Little League Baseball.
BCYB Little League will be in Virginia's Little League District 12, consisting of Little League franchises from Roanoke (Cave Spring American and Cave Spring National Little Leagues), Pembroke, Buena Vista, Clifton Forge, Covington , Craig County, Highland County, and Bath County.
Being affiliated with Little League and Dixie Girl's Softball will allow the league to grow and expand, offering more programs for the youth of our community. It will allow teams (9-11 year old baseball and 9-15 year old softball) to compete against teams from within the district during the regular season and against teams from the entire state of Virginia at the end of season All-Star tournaments.
For the Spring 2006 season, we will be offering a T-Ball League for boys and girls (4-5 year old league), a T-Ball League for 6 year old boys and girls, a Coach Pitch League for boys and girls (7-8 year olds), a Girl's Softball League (9-15 year olds), and a Boy's Baseball League (9-11 year olds).
The Blacksburg community has supported us well through sponsorships of each
team. This
has helped keep the costs reasonable for each child and family.
Being affiliated with
Little League also gives BCYB Little League 501(c)-3 status for tax deductible
donations made to the league by local businesses. Our future
for our children is brighter than ever! We
thank those that have participated with us last year and welcome the new folks
for joining us for the upcoming season.
In closing I would like to add that I have been involved as a player, coach and
organizer of baseball and other youth sports for over 50 years.
I have always had a love for all sports because others made it fun for
me. I hope to continue that
experience to our league and others. Our
BCYB Little League hopes to promote our baseball league as a wonderful experience for your
child. Hopefully they can take what
they learn here to another level, whether that level is baseball, adult
recreational sports or parent coaching. Parents
can also enjoy this experience by practicing this or other sports with their
children and by making new friends.
