Installing PPP for Windows 95
Script Setup Instructions for Windows 95
Having a script allows you to automatically login to PPP with only
double-clicking on the "PPP Connection icon".
Installation of Windows 95 Scripting
- Once you have gotten the files above (Dialup Scripting and RU PPP Script), copy those two (2) files on to a blank disk.
- Go to the dos command prompt, and go to the drive where those files were copied to.
- You will need to execute the command "dscript.exe" (this uncompresses all of the files in the archive for installation).
- Load up the "Control Panel. This is located by double-clicking on the "My Computer" icon on the desktop.
- Then double-click on "Add/Remove Programs" icon located at the top of the control panel.
- Click on the "Windows Setup" tab at the top of the window.
- Then click on "Have Disk" located at the bottom of the window.
- Enter the directory that you executed the command "dscript.exe" in.
- Check the box where it says "Dialup Scripting Tool". This will complete the installation of this package.
- Next return to where you have placed the file "ruppp.scp". This will require going back into the shell and changing directories.
- Type "copy ruppp.scp c:\"Program Files"\Accessories\
- Exit out of the shell and you will need to go to the "Start" button located at the bottom left of the desktop.
- Follow this up to "Programs" and then proceed onto "Applications"
- "Dialup Scripting Tool" should be located here, now move the mouse down to "Dialup Scripting Tool" and click on it.
- You should see a window with "PPP" in a listing of connections. You will need to move the mouse down to it and highlight it.
- Next, you will need to go over to the scripts sub-window and click on "ruppp.scp" to link both togethger.
- NOTE: If you have problems running the script and logging into the network correctly and without error, you may have to edit the script and enter your name and password into it. (The script is labeled where your name and password would go, you
may have to change it from $USERID to something like "jsmith"; remeber the quotes.)
- Click on "Apply when all has been completed.
- Finally, you will need to (only if using the scripting) to not "Bring Up Terminal Window" by unchecking this feature.
Congratulations! You have completed the PPP setup. Now see "Using PPP" on the previous page to see how to connect.
