Using DeskJet printers and the JetDirect print server in the Networks Lab
Go to the Hewlett Packard
(HP) web site (http://www.hp.com) and find
information about the JetDirect 170x Ethernet print
server.
Look for instructions on
resetting the JetDirect (“little network interface
box”) by depressing the button on the back.
The JetDirect
contains a small processor with the ability to do DHCP, and even a web server.
You can change the IP
address of the JetDirect (which is the address to use
for the printer) by one of two methods
1) Resetting
the JetDirect; this causes the jetDirect
to use DHCP to find an IP address. You will need to turn on DHCP service in
either your server or on your router to accommodate the printer.
2) Set the
IP address manually via the web server on the jetDirect.
To do this, press the button on the back of the jetDirect
long enough for the printer to print out its current settings. Current IP
address is included. Then go to a browser and type in the IP address. You
should see a web page.
Connect to the printer from
your Win2K3 server machine
1) Go
to the Printers and Faxes folder (start button à Printers and Faxes). Choose Add Printer
2) This
will be a local printer (relative to the server)
3) Allow
the printer to be shared so your workstations can use it.
