Here is my own lecture-note-sketch (very rough).

• Lecture for Oct.05,07:
  1. Optional: recording 0:00–32:18: real-world extensions to regexps (non-regular langs)
  2. recording start at 32:18: pumping lemma for DFAs
  3. Read closely subsections 8.4.1 and 8.4.2 (p.123+15=138(pdf), up through proof that aⁿbⁿ non-regular, p.126+15=141(pdf)). You may also watch recording zoom-lect (stop at 42:05).

     Note: Zoom doesn't record participants, and the whiteboard board (via phone-cam) was just another participant! So you'll have to rely more on reading subsection 8.4.2, since the lecture's whiteboard is absent.

     Take-home task: prove Bal (the language of strings with balanced-parentheses) is not regular This question is ppt-slide #68, and is in above video @ 42m00s, and is book Example 8.10).
