Critical Info
The opening-ceremony slides are here.
Before the contest
- Decide with your proctor/coach,
where you will compete, and
which computer (and IDE) you'll use.
(See rules.)
Discuss with them, how printing will be handled, to ensure you don't see other teams' code.
- Make sure you are able to log on to mausa21.kattis.com.
The problems won't be visible yet,
but if the upper-right says
spectator
or login
,
you are not logged in with the right account!
See kattis login instructions.
- A practice-problem will be at that URL (approx) Wed–Fri;
make sure all your team-members are able to submit to it.
- Read through the rules below.
- Bookmark www.radford.edu/acm/midatl .
- Gather any snacks/meals/energy-food you'll want to have on-hand during the contest.
- Read over the Contest Guide,
with the nitty-gritty of how problems are submitted, timed, and judged.
During the contest
- mausa21.kattis.com:
log in with your existing kattis account (using the email you used for ICPC registration);
see kattis login instructions.
- Questions on contest-day? Via kattis-clarification (preferred),
or email mausa21help AT gmail.com.
- The kattis problems will be blank.
Your proctor (coach) will provide you with a hardcopy of the problem set.
- During the contest, periodically check for any
General Clarifications
.
- Please DO NOT MENTION/DISCUSS/POST ANY PROBLEMS ON THE WEB
(incl. social media, public github repos, …)
until after the contest ends!, thanks.
- If necessary during the contest,
refer to
the Contest Guide
for the nitty-gritty of how problems are submitted, timed, and judged.
Rules synopsis (finalized)
The basic rules for participation in this year's contest are:
- The competition will be run under the honor system, according to academic standards of conduct.
- During the competition, teams may communicate about the contest only with their team members,
and contest-staff via kattis' Clarification system.
The only exception: if there is a technical difficulty connecting to mausa21.kattis.com,
contact your proctor (likely your coach), and they will contact the contest-staff.
Teams may not communicate about the contest with contestants on other teams, family members, &etc.;
Please refrain from posting anything on social media during the contest (even if you finish early).
- Exactly one workstation (computer) allowed per team
This differs from last year's virtual competition,
but is a return to the standard configuration.
Phones, tablets, and watches are not allowed.
Any computer allowed: it can be one in a school-lab, or even one student's
personal machine.
However, only one keyboard — only one active user at a time.
(Multiple monitors are acceptable.)
- Teams are not permitted to use most internet or online resources.
This differs from last year's virtual competition,
but is a return to the standard configuration.
Exception:
URLs whose start matches *.kattis.com or *.radford.edu/acm/midatl/.
Note that language APIs will be available from the latter (each w/ its own search-box).
- Physical resources (printed books and notes) are acceptable, as usual.
- Local file access is allowed this year!
E.g. you may bring a thumb drive (or, have existing files on your hard drive)
containing a collection of prepared algorithms ready to copy/paste.
Usually you'd have to print such material before the contest;
this rule will save a few trees.
- Any IDEs/tools are allowed.
Exception: no "multi-keyboard" tools that allow multiple people to use the computer simultaneously.
The contest is also subject to the
standard Regional Contest rules
(but where they conflict, this page takes precedence).
We ask for your understanding, as we all work together to run this annual contest
differently from previous years; thank you!
Kattis login instructions
- You'll submit your problems by logging in at mausa21.kattis.com.
- Kattis uses the ICPC registration email address,
to identify if you have an existing account in Kattis.
- If you did not already have a Kattis account associated with your ICPC registration email address,
then kattis created one for you, and sent you an email with their new credentials.
You should use that (new) account, even if you have other Kattis accounts.
Only the new account is associated with the contest.
- If you already had a Kattis account associated with your ICPC registration email address,
then you should just use that account.
Again, using another account will not work and is a common source of error.
In this case, you received no email about new credentials from Kattis
(because you already had credentials that match their ICPC registration email address).
- The team memberships are handled in the way you'd expect.
Each person is assigned to their team (so: multiple individual accounts per team).
- If you log in and see "Spectator" in the top-right corner,
then you are not logged in with the correct account.
Should work, as of 2022-Feb-23 14:30 ET
- If you can't log in (but know the ICPC registration email),
click
I forgot my password
.
- If you don't know your ICPC registration email login/email,
mail mausa21help AT gmail.com; include your team-name, coach, and school.
- If your campus is blocking mausa21.kattis.com (as a
new
domain, and hence suspicious):
Contact your proctor (coach), and they can try to
(a) set up a tethered hotspot on their phone, and/or
(b) contact your local campus IT.
Try the above even if you are getting a
NET::ERR_CERT_INVALID
;
a bug in openDNS sometimes gives that error-message
even though it's simply a new (suspicious) site.
This is a tough problem, since root cause is controlled by neither you nor us!
Communication during contest
- If you have a question,
use the kattis system's
clarification request
.
- If you are unable to access kattis,
have your coach
contact the contest-staff,
e.g. by emailing mausa21help AT gmail.com.
- If we need to communicate to everybody (hopefully we won't!),
contest staff will post a "general clarification", in kattis,
so please keep your eye open for those.
- In the unlikely event that
we need to contact an individual or team, we will send email to the coach.
Other Logistics
- You must respect your local lab's/institution's rules
re food/snacks, social-distancing, etc..
- You may certainly take restroom/snack breaks (without your phone).
- If in a room with other teams,
do your reasonable best to avoid information cross-over.
- As mentioned: even if you leave the contest before 5 hours,
do not post on social media or communicate with non-teammates
until the contest ends.
This is critical; some of the same contest-problems might be used in other regions/time-zones.
- If t-shirts weren't ordered for your team, contact your coach.
They can still place an order for one week following the contest.
System Requirements
- As per above rules,
one workstation allowed per team.
This might be a machine in a school-lab,
and could even be a team-member's personal machine.
Only one keyboard allowed (but multiple monitors are acceptable).
- Any compilers, editors, IDEs, and other tools you will need locally.
The allowed languages are C/C++, Java, python3, and Kotlin.
We will use the version & libraries
as provided by kattis.com
(e.g. Java 11, not Java 17).
- A browser capable of accessing mausa21.kattis.com.
Be sure you can log in to that site;
the upper-right corner should not say spectator
.
See kattis login instructions.
- Zoom (for opening/closing ceremonies; via browser is okay).
We are thankful for our ICPC global sponsors for helping make this contest possible!
We are also deeply thankful for the work of all the volunteers
who helped make today's contest possible -- You know who you are!
Your work in a cause you believe in is appreciated by many.

is eligible for the Mid-Atlantic Regional contest.

last December.
However, the eligibility dates for the North American Championship and/or World Finals
might be based solely on the 2022-Feb-26 date.
- There is no registration fee this year
thanks to generous national sponsors.
- The NAQ (
North American Qualifier
)
will bewas held on-line, 2022-Jan-22, 14:00 ET.
Despite its name, the NAQ is only a 'qualifier' if a coach chooses to make it so for their own teams.
